Auditions for film will open soon

Local actors are invited to audition for a community short film.

The auditions for the Irene Dramatic Society’s short film Headstones will open shortly. This will create an opportunity for aspiring local actors. The auditions will be held at the Irene Homes in Albert Street, Irene on 18 May at around 14:00.

The movie is a ghost story taking place on a South African horse farm. People are invited to audition for the following roles: Linda, who is the farm owner (age between 25 and 40); Hanlie, Linda’s friend (age between 25 and 40); Douglas, Linda’s neighbour (age between 25 and 40); Michael, also a neighbour (age between 25 and 40); Sarah, the domestic worker (age between 30-50), Josiah, the groom (age between 25 and 40); John, Linda’s son (age between 16 and 25); the male ghost (any age); female ghost (any age).

An extract of the script can be downloaded from the website www.irene-dramatic-society.co.za or obtained from the producer whose details are given below. Prospective actors will not necessarily read the part they are auditioning for.

The primary shooting will take place from 13 to 16 June, with the reserve shoot being on the 16th. Performers must be available for the entire weekend and also during the reserve day. Rehearsals will take place during the first two weeks in June in the evenings at mutually acceptable times.

The Irene Dramatic Society is a community theatre group. As this will be a community film by and for the society, and as all crew members are ‘donating’ their time and expertise, the actors will not be paid. Actors are advised to see this solely as an opportunity to have fun and gain experience.
