Officer gets heartwarming farewell

Colleagues described officer Lehlongwa as a humble person who respects the law and other people.

Villieria police bid farewell to long-serving Warrant Officer Mzilikazi Lucas Lehlongwa recently.

Acting station commander Lieutenant-Colonel Silas Thoka and his team bid farewell to Warrant Officer Lehlongwa (49), who was found unfit to perform his duties as a officer due to a medical condition.

Lieutenant-Colonel Thoka described Lehlongwa as a man of few words. A humble person who has respect for everybody.

Villeria police spokesperson Coba Brits said Lehlongwa began his career in 1991 as one of the first African students who attended basic training at the Pretoria West police college.

“He worked in Sunnyside as a student and was transferred to OR Tambo International Airport to do vispol policing after completing his studies.”

Lehlongwa started at Olifantsfontein Crime Prevention Unit in 1994 and was transferred to Villieria police seven years later.

“Lucas enjoys reading the newspaper and although he has a vehicle, he would rather walk to the nearest stand and collect his favourite reading material. He loves soccer and supports Mamelodi Sundowns.”

Brits said although Lehlongwa had numerous medical setbacks, his positive attitude kept him smiling at all times.

“He was an example to his junior members and Villieria police who wish him all the best with his retirement.”
