Community comes together to raise money for Ons Huis

“We have a shop at the activity centre where people can come and buy articles made by our handicapped people.”

Members of the community came through to support Ons Huis, as it hosted its own market at the NG Elarduspark church on Saturday.

The Ons Huis centre provides accommodation to 15 mentally handicapped persons.

During the day the centre also has an activity centre for 24 mentally challenged persons.

It grew from only one house and today there are two separate buildings.

Christie Mare, general manager for NG Elarduspark said the event was about getting the community involved in the Ons Huis trust.

“Ons Huis is a part of the community and we are glad that the community is doing the best it can show their support,” said Mare.

There were numerous stalls where people could buy anything from food to jewellery at the event.

Mare said that there were at least 23 stalls.

She thanked various business entities who supported the cause.

“We are fortunate enough to have the support of Spur and Pick ‘n Pay Cornwall View, Kings Meat deli, Engen garage and Castle Walk,” said Mare.

“We have a shop at the activity centre where people can come and buy articles made by our handicapped people,” she said.

She pleaded with the public to come forward and support Ons Huis.

“We would like the business community and individuals to become involved,” said Mare.
