Look before you cross the road – pedestrians urged
This comes after a person was knocked over by a taxi on Tuesday morning.
Tshwane metro police have urged pedestrians to be responsible and avoid crossing the roads at unmarked areas after a person was knocked over by a taxi on E’skia Mphahlele Drive on Tuesday morning.
“The pedestrian was crossing the road but was unaware a taxi was approaching,” spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba said.
Mahamba said pedestrians had to be cautious before crossing the road.
“Check the traffic before stepping onto a crosswalk and be alert to turning vehicles.”

He urged pedestrians to avoid crossing the road where it was not safe to do so and to make use of the designated crossing areas.
“Pedestrians must look right, left and right again before crossing a street,” Mahamba said.
Mahamba offered the following road warnings:
- Cross the road at marked crosswalks or intersections
- Use sidewalks where provided and walk facing traffic if none are available
- Be extra careful when you get off a bus, cross at a pedestrian crossing and look at traffic carefully before crossing the road
- Always be visible on the road, especially at night
- Don’t wear headphones or talk on a cellphone when crossing the road
Rekord was yet to establish the identity and condition of the pedestrian at the time of going to press.
