Mid-week police operations nab 47 in the east
“Operations were conducted simultaneously in Pretoria Central, Sunnyside, Pretoria Moot, Pretoria West and Brooklyn.”
A mid-week safer inner-city operation saw 47 arrests being made and more than R70 000 in fines being issued on Wednesday, 10 July.
Police spokesperson Captain Colette Weilbach said “integrated operations between the police and other law enforcement agencies in the inner city is a proactive response to stamp out dishonesty and lawlessness.
“Operations were conducted simultaneously in Pretoria Central, Sunnyside, Pretoria Moot, Pretoria West and Brooklyn.”

She said within the first two hours of the operation, the police made their presence felt in Pretoria Central by arresting 12 suspects for drug-related offences.
“This number was increased 18 drug-related arrests at the end of the operation.
“Other arrests were for offences such as undocumented persons, possession of a dangerous weapon and pedestrian source of danger.”
Second-hand goods compliance inspections were conducted and consequently R12 000 of fines were issued for failure to register as a second-hand goods dealer.
Weilbach said every so often the second-hand goods industry becomes the sponge that absorbs stolen goods.
“Therefore, businesses are encouraged to reject any offer to buy stolen goods as this perpetuates criminality,” she said.

“During joint roadblock operations with the Road Traffic Management Corporation at Lynnwood and Justice Mohammed roads, 120 vehicles and 280 people were searched.”
Weilbach said 70 fines were issued for Road Traffic Act offences to the amount of R52 750.
