Hundreds of vehicles stopped, searched in female-led operation

A total of 1 200 road safety pamphlets were also handed out to motorists.

Three passenger-carrying vehicles were discontinued and fines valued at thousands of rands issued during a women in law enforcement-led operation on Thursday.

The operation was held on the N1 south.

“The vehicles were discontinued due to faulty brakes,” Tshwane metro police department spokesperson Nonhlanhla Tapala said.

She said the fines issued were for a number of reasons, including no driver permits, number plates and drivers not wearing seat belts.

“Around 1 000 vehicles were stopped and searched throughout the operation,” Tapala said.

A total of 1 200 road safety pamphlets were also handed out to motorists.

Tapala said the operation – led by women in law enforcement – was aimed at road safety education, law enforcement along with checking driver and vehicle fitness.

Additional stakeholders involved in the operation along the N1 south included the Gauteng traffic police, national traffic police, road traffic management corporation and SAPS.
