Prasa announces five key executive appointments
Prasa administrator Bongisizwe Mpondo says the appointments are key in the turn-around strategy set at stabilising the “broken” entity.

Five key executives appointed to assist the state-owned entity, Prasa, were announced by the administrator Bongisizwe Mpondo, on Friday during a media briefing.
The appointments were part of his turn-around strategy set at stabilising and saving Prasa from hitting deeper financial slumps.
Mpondo said the appointees were key to healing Prasa from what Minister Fikile Mbalula referred to as a “broken business” as he dissolved its board last year and appointed Mpondo.
Mpondo said over the years, Prasa had a tendency of placing individuals who lacked qualifications and experience and that was one of its downfalls.
“It has therefore been my mission, and it will continue to be, to ensure the right people are appointed in executive positions and further down the ranks.
“I am quite certain that the Prasa we are building will be in need of their valuable expertise in the not so distant future.”
He announced the following:
– Prasa rail chief executive officer Nosipho Damasane.
Damasane was the CEO of the Bombela operating company, the operator of Gautrain. In that role, she had the opportunity to work and get exposure and training in France, the United Kingdom and the Middle East on passenger rail operations. Damasane has 22 years’ experience in logistics, port and rail cargo, passenger operations, infrastructure development and transport policy development, this according to Mpondo.
– Prasa technical chief CEO Hishaam Emeran
A transport specialist with 25 years’ experience, ten of which were obtained in the private sector in transportation and consulting.
– Chief executive for Autopax, Neil Roesch
Roesch has leadership experience in bus services and logistics, as well as the manufacturing of buses. Roesch recently serves as an operations executive at Larimar (Putco) and has more than 30 years of experience in the bus industry, Mpondo said.
– Prasa group chief Information officer, David Mphelo
An independent consultant focusing on digital transformation with competitive market development strategies to drive business growth. Mpondo said Mphelo has a wealth of experience in the ICT sector.
– Group company secretary, Sandile Dlamini.
Dlamini has 18 years’ experience as a company secretary and a legal advisory expert.

Mpondo said the appointments were an additional part of his plan in stabilising Prasa.
“Together we have to ensure that we create a Prasa that is unrecognisable from its troubled past.”
Mpondo said Prasa would outline Covid-19 responses after Mbalula announces level 3 transport regulations.
“However, our teams are working very hard to ensure our environment is safe for employees and customers alike and that we prevent and combat the spread of Covid-19.”
As millions are expected to go back to work on 1 June, many commuters will use Prasa’s rails and buses. The sector needs to ramp up its measures at ensuring safety which might be challenged due to the high density of commuters.
