Centurion toddler who nearly drowned suffers setback
At the weekend, Janlo’s parents learnt he has to undergo rehabilitation for a while, due to brain trauma from the near-drowning incident.

It was a difficult weekend for the Rademeyer family of Centurion after they received news that their toddler son has suffered brain trauma after nearly drowning last month.
On 19 May, Janlo Rademeyer (3) from Wierda Park in Centurion, was rushed to a hospital in Johannesburg in a critical condition after he reportedly fell into the swimming pool.
“Thank you to everyone for your continued prayers and support for the family,” Wierda Park Primary School headmaster Louis Dekker said.
Janlo’s mother Carin is a teacher at Wierda Park Primary School and his father Emile is a dominee at the Doornkloof Family Church.
“Although Janlo was doing well, it was a difficult weekend for him and his family,” Dekker said.
At the weekend, Janlo’s parents learnt he has to undergo rehabilitation for a while, due to brain trauma from the near-drowning incident.
“He is still being tube-fed and in a lot of pain.”
Janlo is also receiving regular physiotherapy and is still on medication, including being nebulised.
Dekker said Janlo was able to sit up “a little” at the weekend, and his mother could hold him for a while.
Since Janlo’s admission, he was moved from an isolation ward to a specialist unit, and later to the paediatric intensive care unit where he was kept under an induced coma as part of his treatment.
Janlo has started physiotherapy a week after being admitted to the hospital.
“We were very excited about his progress and basically waiting for him to start responding to instructions and impulses. Thank you for your continued prayers and support,” Dekker said.
