Gauteng Covid-19 positive cases low as ‘only 809’ cases recorded on Monday
The province remains the country’s hotspot.

The Gauteng province recorded low daily cases on Monday, which only mounted to 809, according to figures published by the health department.
This comes as a surprise as it was anticipated that August would see an increase in the number of cases as modellers projected this month to be the peak period for transmissions.
However, the province remained the country’s hotspot, as Gauteng Covid-19 positive cases climbed to 193 561 as of Monday.
The province’s Covid-19 recoveries remained in good standing at 145 776 and 2 618 deaths thus far.
On Monday, the department released statistics which showed the total number of recoveries standing at 143 068 with 2 579 Covid-19 related deaths.
The department of health said out of 95 189 contacts traced (individuals who were in contact with a person who tested positive for Covid-19), 74 579 people have completed the 14 days monitoring period, with no symptoms, reported and were de-isolated.
