Moot police arrest six suspects for drug possession

Police are currently busy looking into the portfolio of the suspects to see if they can be linked to any other crimes.

Moot police arrested six men for possession of drugs on Thursday (22 April), after receiving information that they are selling drugs in and around the area of Melgisedek.

The men were arrested on the corner of Annie Botha and Johan Heyns roads in Riviera.

Captain Anton Breedt of Pretoria Moot, said police were investigating six cases of possession of drugs.

“The suspects (aged between 23 and 37) were surprised by the police at the premises after planned and swift action,” he said.

“Several drugs were seized from the suspects and sealed in forensic bags, with a street value of R1 000.

“These suspects were identified through ongoing operation at Melgisedek and surrounding areas.

“They are believed to be the ‘runners’ for the main dealers meaning that these suspects sell the drugs to customers and only receive a small amount from the main dealers,” Breedt said.

He said that the suspects appeared in the Pretoria magistrate’s court on Friday, 23 April, and were remanded in custody for further investigation.

Police arrested a total of 142 suspects for various crimes within the Tshwane Central district during weekend crime prevention operations.

Nine police stations, Brooklyn, Villieria, Pretoria Moot, Garsfontein, Pretoria North, Sinoville, Sunnyside, Silverton and Lyttelton participated in operations such as O kae Molao and high density boosted performances.

The police held revolving road block, stop-and-searches and information-driven operations.

“We welcomed these arrests and commended law enforcement officers from across Tshwane for their dedication and commitment in stemming the tide of criminality.

“The arrests were for various crimes such as rape, drunken driving, drugs and other serious offences. These successes were achieved through combined multiple role players,” Breedt said.
