Six people killed in Moloto bus fire

The bus is believed to have been traveling from Marabastad to Tweefontein in Mpumalanga when it caught fire.

Six commuters lost their lives when a bus caught fire on the Moloto Road on Friday afternoon. Tshwane emergency services spokesperson Charles Mabaso said the incident took place at around 13:52. “A total of 57 commuters escaped with multiple injuries,” he said. “Firefighters arrived on scene to find 14 patients and received reports that some have already been transported by private emergency medical services ambulances.” Mabaso said, of the 14 patients, 11 suffered minor injuries, two sustained moderate injuries, while one female patient had to be airlifted to Milpark Hospital in a critical condition. According to Mabaso once the fire was extinguished firefighters discovered what looked like charred human remains. “Upon further investigation, it was discovered that 6 of the commuters burned beyond recognition.” The driver of the bus told firefighters that while driving he was informed that the bus was on fire and immediately stopped the bus. Mabaso said the driver indicated that the bus was carrying 63 commuters from Marabastad in Tshwane to Tweefontein in Mpumalanga. He said the cause of the fire was not yet known, and the deceased have not yet been identified. Do you have more information about the story?
