Pedestrian in serious condition after being hit by two cars in Centurion

“The medic then travelled with the patient in the ER24 ambulance to a private hospital for further care.”

A pedestrian was seriously injured when she was hit by two cars and got stuck under the wheels of the second car in Centurion on Thursday afternoon.

Ruan Heyns, of CERT-SA emergency response service, said they responded to the accident at Jean Avenue near Rabie Street just after 17:00.

“When we arrived, community members had already stopped to assist the woman. Some good Samaritans had rushed to a nearby building to borrow a big enough jack to lift a vehicle off of her to release pressure on her so she can breathe.

“Apparently, she tried to cross the road when she was struck by a car and landed in the road when a second car drove over her and came to a standstill on top of her.”

Heyns said paramedics removed the woman in her 20s from underneath the vehicle.

“She was seriously injured, but in a stable condition when she was taken to a nearby hospital.”

“Many community members stopped and offered assistance, as well as ER24 and Netcare 911. Noordvaal Security guard division safeguarded the scene.”

ER24 spokesperson Ross Campbell said their paramedics arrived on the scene at 17:25.

“The woman was knocked over by a Hyundai and then a Volvo SUV drove over her and, stopping, trapped her under the back wheel. The local community had freed the woman by the time we arrived.”

Campbell said it was found the woman sustained multiple injuries and was in a critical condition.

“She was treated with advanced life support interventions by another private service medic on the scene.

“The medic then travelled with the patient in the ER24 ambulance to a private hospital for further care.”

Heyns also requested the community to support CERT-SA since it was a non-profit and public benefit organisation and solely reliant on donations to keep providing much-needed services to the community free of charge.
