Locals shaken by earthquake

The quake was not only felt by locals but residents from Midrand and other northern suburbs of Johannesburg were also shaken from their slumber by the rattling thunder-like noise.

Parts of Pretoria and Centurion were rattled by an earthquake on Sunday afternoon.

At around 13:30, the Council for GeoScience reported on their website an earthquake of magnitude 2.7 in the Centurion area near Pretoria.

The quake was not only felt by locals but residents from Midrand and other northern suburbs of Johannesburg were also shaken from their slumber by the rattling thunder-like noise.

Noxolo Salizwa Qumana from Centurion posted, “Never been so scared, jumped out of my chair.” 

Jolene Joubert said, “Felt and heard it in Lyttelton Manor. Sounded like two explosions.”

“Felt that in Rooihuiskraal. The noise was like thunder,” tweeted Sureshan Padiachy.

“Earth tremor in Midrand a few minutes ago,” wrote Elsabie Templeton on Facebook.
