Family Father’s Day celebration

Family Father’s Day event was a platform for fathers to talk about their daily challenges and to help each other with their challenges.

Fathers encouraged each other to stay strong, take responsibility and break the silence on the challenges they face last Saturday.

This happened during the Family Father’s day event organised by a group of ladies as a token of appreciating fathers for all the hard work they are doing for their families.

The event was held at Mamelodi West Section D1 as part of the annual celebration.

Mapitso Makena, one of the organisers, said the event was organised by ladies who felt compelled after fathers said that every single year they keep celebrating Mother’s Day and go all out celebrating mothers in their lives, “but we hardly do anything for them”.

The event also gave fathers a platform to talk about their daily challenges and to help each other with their challenges.

Pastor Sebego Moremi said the event was a healing session just to bring men together and speak about their challenges in life.

He encouraged fathers to be aware that they are not alone and that they should speak up about their challenges.

“Father’s Day is a day of honouring fatherhood and paternal bonds, as well as the influence of fathers in society.”

Speaker of the day, Leroy Tau said it’s very hard to be a man.

“We all have experienced a lot of pain and we were taught not to cry.

“Men cannot express how they are feeling instead they become violent and in most cases, they drink and turn violent towards their loved ones,” said Tau.

Tau further encouraged fathers to invite God into their lives and ask for forgiveness from women they have abused.

The ladies further cooked a delicious meal for the fathers and the children sent a video message to their fathers telling them how much they appreciate them.

Ofentse, a young and upcoming artist, entertained the guests.
