Woman arrested for allegedly killing grandfather (72)

Police arrested a 27-year-old woman for allegedly beating her 72-year-old grandfather to death and then setting him alight in Winterveldt on Wednesday.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Thembi Nowathe said the old man was found by his grandson in a pool of blood on his burning bed.
Nowathe said the grandson lived nearby and had come to check up on the old man because there was a power outage at the time.
Nowathe said he saw flames coming out of his bedroom and ran into the house.
“He saw his cousin exiting the house.
“Inside the bedroom, the grandfather was found in a pool of blood and his bed was on fire. The grandson screamed for help while trying extinguish the fire.
Nowathe said the grandson rushed the old man to Kgabo Clinic for help but it was too late.
When police arrived on the scene, the deceased had already been taken the clinic.
“The officers saw bloodstains on the wall, bed and curtain. The bed was burnt. They rushed to the clinic to check up on the victim.”
Nowathe said the cousin was later arrested and detained at the Dube police station.
She said a murder case was being investigated by the police.
