Pretoria residents should prepare for possible severe thunderstorms on Monday, September 28, ahead of a sharp drop in temperatures and wetter conditions later in the week.

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a yellow level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms across most of Gauteng, excluding the province’s southwestern areas. Its forecast calls for a warm, partly cloudy day with isolated showers and thundershowers.

Vox Weather said some storms could become severe, bringing heavy downpours, hail, strong gusty winds and frequent lightning. These conditions are possible in affected areas, although storms may miss parts of Pretoria.

The outlook then turns colder and wetter.

Pretoria is forecast to experience a substantial drop in daytime temperatures on Tuesday and Wednesday, with rain possible on both days.

Residents should keep an eye on updated forecasts and warnings, as the timing and location of storms can change.
