Killer crossing in Dalmada to be tamed by set of traffic lights
Traffic lights will be erected at the infamous Dalmada crossing as soon as possible.

Traffic lights will be erected at the infamous Dalmada crossing as soon as possible.
This welcome information was shared by newly-appointed roads and transport spokesperson, Jimmy Machaka earlier this week. The decision to erect traffic lights at the crossing was made following the latest fatal accident, that occurred just over a week ago.
“Inspectors from the South Africa National Roads Agency Limited (Sanral) visited the site of the accident at the beginning of this week, and I am very confident that there will be a traffic light set in place as soon as possible.
“The matter was given the attention it deserved and is seen as a serious matter,” Machaka said.
Henry Raath (41) was the latest victim of the dangerous Dalmada intersection, which had been reported on several times in the past, and had also claimed quite a few lives.
Raath was riding his bicycle to work when a bus collided with him, killing him instantly.
Just over a year ago Paul Erasmus, a 16-year-old HTS Tom Naudé learner lost his life at the crossing after a vehicle collided with him while he was riding his motorcycle.
Community policing forum members and other residents had reportedly been trying to get the authorities to make the intersection safer for some years.
Residents said speeding and poor visibility and the crossing seemed to be the main causes of accidents at the crossing.
