Clean school success

THIS year’s cleanest school competition was won by Mmaphai Primary School from Tickeyline village in Maake outside Tzaneen with a trophy and a cheque for R9 500 being handed over to the school during a awards ceremony at the Tzaneen show ground last Friday.

This year seven schools selected from Relela, Bulamahlo, Runneymede and Lesedi, the four clusters of the Greater Tzaneen municipality, made it through to the finals and received accolades at the awards ceremony.

There were five categories in which several aspects like school environment, greening aspects, condition of ablution facilities, and water management were considered.

Maje Primary School came second and received R7 500, third was Maroboni Primary School receiving R6 000, and Vulakanjani Primary School came fourth receiving R4 000. Nyavana, Ponani, and Nelson Ramodike primary schools came fifth, sixth and seventh respectively.

According to Greater Tzaneen acting mayor, Morepiwa Mokgomole, the protection of the environmen is not solely the government’s responsibility but also society’s.

She said government invested millions of Rand on environmental projects aimed at creating jobs.

“We have made it a point that each school has a skipper bin available in the interest of a cleaner environment, which is one of the reasons that Tzaneen has won the greenest municipality award time and again,” she said. Mokgomole congratulated all the participants of the competition.
