Golf challenge showcases Limpopo tourism
A ONE-DAY golf challenge saw golfers, business people and government dignitaries vying for first place at the Legend Golf & Safari Resort

A ONE-DAY golf challenge saw golfers, business people and government dignitaries vying for first place on the unique “world-in-one” signature course at Legend Golf & Safari Resort near Mookgophong over the weekend.
The challenge was a joint partnership between Limpopo Tourism Agency (LTA), the national department of tourism and the Limpopo economic development, environment and tourism (Ledet) and was led by premier Stan Mathabatha, Limpopo Tourism CEO Nocks Seabi and Tourism SA CEO Thulani Nzima.
The aim of the challenge was to attract tourists with the golf and safari theme, and many participants came from afar to have the chance of taking the challenge of the world’s most talked about and unique par 3, the Extreme 19th. Set high up on the impressive Hanglip Mountain, the hole is accessible only by helicopter and played to a green the shape of Africa some 400m below.
Mathabatha said the challenge was also to celebrate the rich culture of tourism and to show the world what Limpopo was made of. “It is only here in the Limpopo province where golf can be played beyond the last 18th hole to the extreme 19th hole while enjoying a view of the ‘big 5’ of Africa,” he said.
Seabi said the event was Tourism Month’s main event, and added that activities where taking place across the province to ensure that Limpopo was fully exposed to tourists. “The golf cluster has seen a steady increase since the launch of the Limpopo golf and safari route in 2010. We are very excited as this is in part the implementation of the contract we recently signed with Pele Pele Travel and Marketing, to promote golf and safari as a niche product in our province. I am indeed confident this will continue to grow Limpopo tourism and enhance the potential of Limpopo as a golf and safari destination of note,” he said.
According to LTA media liaison officer Mike Tauatsoala, the event formed part of LTA’s domestic umbrella marketing campaign under the “Play with Us” segment. The other two segments are known as “Celebrate with Us” and “Tour with Us”.
The winners of the day were Ivano Fikabi, Pieter Kruger, Norman Mashaba and Paul Marks.
