Awards to celebrate greening
THE Greater Tzaneen Municipality was crowned the winner of the 2013 Mopani Greenest Municipality Competition

THE Greater Tzaneen Municipality was crowned the winner of the 2013 Mopani Greenest Municipality Competition held at Maruleng in Hoedspruit recently.
The awards, which were announced by district mayor, Joshua Matlou won the greenest municipality R25 000 and a trophy. The prizes were awarded to the winners during a gala dinner organised by the Mopani District Municipality. Five local municipalities, Greater Tzaneen, Letaba, Maruleng, Giyani and Ba-Phalaborwa participated in the competition.
This is the second time that GTM wins a similar award in three months. In June they received the first prize in the Greenest Award Competition where they received a trophy and a R3,5 million cheque.
They also won a PMR Golden Arrow Award and they received a certificate as the municipality to attract the most local investment.
At the same time, GTM were also awarded a PMR Silver Award which they received for being the municipality doing most for social upliftment. In this category they were also awarded a certificate and a trophy.
GTM mayor, Dikeledi Mmetle said the award was dedicated to the workers whose efforts always put the institution on top.
“We are very grateful to receive the awards because this would motivate us to work harder to change the lives of our people and to keep our environment clean,” Mmetle said.
