Warning by muni against unlawful sale of stands

THE Polokwane Municipality has sent a warning that the illegal selling of stands in Mamadimo Park in Mankweng will not be tolerated

THE Polokwane Municipality has sent a warning that the illegal selling of stands in Mamadimo Park in Mankweng will not be tolerated and drastic action will be taken against those found selling the stands.

This comes after a group of residents sold stands in Mamadimo Park, near Unit C.

Municipal spokesperson, Matshidiso Mothapo said: “We will not hesitate to take drastic action against those involved in the illegal sale of land”.

Some of the residents said they paid about R16 000 for the stands and knew the people who sold them the stands.

A resident, who did not wish to be named for fear of victimisation, claimed he tried to blow the whistle on the scam, but was promised bribe money to remain silent.

He told Express he had information on those behind the illegal sale of land.

He said what worried residents was that people from as far as Gauteng and Mpumalanga were allocated stands in the area.

He also alleged that stands, which were allocated for schools and clinics were sold to foreign nationals to build rental rooms.

Mothapo said the municipality would investigate all aspects of the issue.

“We will lay criminal charges against those involved in the scam,” he said.

It is alleged that some ward committee members were also involved in the scam, with some stands being sold twice to different people.

Mothapo said those who paid money for stands should come forward and state their case in an affidavit.

“We need written proof in the form of an affidavit to be able to act against those involved in the scam,” he said.
