Terrible cloud of stink over Ladine area

An unbearable stench has been hanging over the Ladine area for almost a month, ellegedly coming from a municipal sewage plant in the area.

Businesses in the area say the horrible smell is bad for their image and affected their businesses negatively because clients are greeted by the terrible stench when they enter the area.

Matshidiso Mothapo, assistant communications manager at the Polokwane Municipality, said the sewage plant suffered an incident where one of the anaerobic digesters’ electrical motors burst and resulted in a reduced sludge-holding capacity. According to Mothapo, this may have resulted in the nauseating smell.

“The municipality has engaged structural engineers to repair this unit and is committed to ensure the smell is sorted out as soon as possible,” Mothapo said.

The municipality apologised for any inconvenience caused by the broken digester.
