SOME 240 households in Kalkspruit in the Aganang municipality are smiling after being connected to a water supply following the completion of the Magongoa water scheme last Tuesday.
The project, that began last year is being served through reticulation from the Houtrivier regional scheme, which also caters for Maraba, Christinah, Wachbank, Kgoroshi, Sechaba and Lepotlako villages.
Although not all the households in these villages receive water as there are still other outstanding water projects in the pipeline, the Capricorn District Municipality, together with the Aganang Municipality, still dispatches water tankers to those in dire need of fresh water.
“We get a supply of water at least twice a week, on Thursdays and Sundays,” a Magongoa resident confirmed.
The Aganang Municipality is also currently implementing another water scheme project to help Lepotlako village residents. “The site has already been established,” project coordinator, Joseph Lamola, said.
He said the contractor had already been introduced to residents and the project steering committee had been set up. He further said another water project was planned for Christinah village in the 2013/14 financial year and residents were awaiting the appointment of a contractor.
“We are happy that we have managed to restore the livelihood of people in Maineleng following the completion of the 2012/13 water scheme to address water supply backlogs in the area,” Lamola said.
Residents were happy that they did not have to walk over 200m to the nearest point of supply anymore. “I live in a corner house and we are thankful that getting water is no longer a nightmare,” a resident said.
