Council meeting is not affected by walk out

MEMBERS of opposition parties were disgruntled when the Capricorn District Municipality failed to distribute council meeting agendas timeously

MEMBERS of opposition parties were disgruntled when the Capricorn District Municipality failed to distribute council meeting agendas timeously last Thursday.

Representatives of the DA, Cope and ACDP walked out of the meeting after expressing their unhappiness and requesting the meeting to be postponed.

Municipal spokesperson, Moffat Senyatsi said members were informed via SMS to collect their agendas on October 29. He said the same councillors who walked out of the council meeting had attended a multi-party meeting the day before the council meeting, but they never raised their dissatisfaction.

“They were given an opportunity to object or raise any matter that they were unhappy with, but they did not say anything relating to the distribution of the agendas,” he said.

He further said the walk out was unacceptable and the resolutions taken by the council would not be affected by it. The walk out did not stop the council meeting from going ahead, based on clause 14(1) of the Standing Rules of Council, Senyatsi said.
