New home for an evicted family
A stand in Hospital View was provided for Selinah Ramatapa (38) and family, who were recently forcefully removed from their RDP home in Westenburg
The department of cooperative governance, human settlements and traditional affairs has provided a stand in Hospital View for Selinah Ramatapa (38), her six-year-old daughter and 68-year-old mother, who were recently forcefully removed from their RDP home in Westenburg where they had been living for 14 years.
The Polokwane Municipality has provided Ramatapa with two disaster tents while she waits for her house to be built and the municipal disaster management team helped her to relocate.
Municipal head of communications, Tidimalo Chuene said a house would be built for Ramatapa on the stand provided.
Ramatapa was evicted some weeks ago by the new owner of the house. She alleged that the owner of the house sold the house to Peter Moetlo without her knowledge.
But Moetlo said Ramatapa was notified about the sale in July and told to find other accommodation as soon as possible.
“I tried to accommodate the woman and explained to her she could stay in the house until she found other accommodation, but it had to be before January because I would need the house then. But the woman was rude and refused to meet me halfway, and that’s when I decided to forcefully remove her from my home,” Moetlo claimed.
Moetlo and some other unidentified people assisting him removed Ramatapa’s furniture from the house and broke the inside walls so she could not enter the house.
Chuene said the situation was regrettable and urged all residents to visit the municipal offices if they had questions or problems regarding their housing arrangements.
