COOPERATIVE governance, human settlements and traditional affairs (Coghsta) MEC, Ishmael Kgetjepe, has deployed his rapid response task team to investigate allegations of corruption that has apparently seriously hindered service delivery within the Musina Municipality.

This follows after the municipal manager allegedly rejected a quotation for services amounting to R148 250 in favour of one amounting to R360 000.

Coghsta spokesperson, Motupa Selomo, also confirmed that the team was investigating some 11 appointments made that were not in the municipality’s budget.

The appointees were allegedly friends of top municipal officials, he said.

He said once the team completed its task, the outcome would be made public.

“Our department also won a case against Mogalakwena Municipality’s manager, Willie Kekana. We took Mogalakwena Municipality to the Northern Gauteng High Court and Kekana’s presence in the office was determined unlawful and illegal. He has indicated that he will appeal the decision.

“In the meanwhile, the municipality should continue with service delivery,” Selomo said.

Musina Municipality spokesperson, Wilson Dzebu, did not want to comment as he was concerned his comment could jeopardise the investigations.

Musina Municipality manager, Johnson Matshivha, told CV he had nothing to hide.
