THE Seshego police claim that the poor condition of roads in rural areas makes it challenging for them to patrol communities in their areas .

Seshego police spokesperson, WO Mothemane Malefo said this was especially challenging during the rainy season.

“There was once a murder in Mmotong Makgofe, where we had to leave the vehicles about 5km away from the scene due to flooding, and had to carry the deceased back to the vehicles,” Malefo said. “Whenever it rains our vehicles get stuck in the mud. This makes our jobs difficult and slows down service delivery.”

Polokwane Municipality spokes-person, Tidimalo Chuene said there was a plan to construct, rehabilitate and maintain all roads that fell within the municipality.

“We have already concluded the appointment of service providers and the handing over of roads and storm water projects to communities has started. General maintenance is done and prioritised according to traffic volumes and safety considerations,” she said.

She assured residents that the municipality was doing what they could to maintain roads in communities.

Chuene encouraged people to report such incidents to the municipality at (015) 290 2000.
