‘Mister B’ on recovery road after amputation

Arrie Bouwer, the principal of Noorderland High School recently underwent a leg amputation and is now back at home and recovering well.

Arrie Bouwer, the principal of Noorderland High School recently underwent a leg amputation and is now back at home and recovering well.

He spoke to Review about his operation. “I had a knee replacement in 2010. After the replacement, my troubles really started. The knee became septic and I experienced a lot of pain. This all ended with the amputation of the leg,” said Bouwer.

“It is good to be back home and it is going very well.

“The operation was very painful and scary, but it is over now. I am doing well. I am healing well and will soon show my face at the school. I will start my duties again in March,” he said.

“I miss the school, especially the learners and the teachers. I cannot wait to go back.”

Review also spoke to some of Noorderland’s learners to hear what they had to say to their principal in these trying times.

Danny Lekganyane said he missed Bouwer’s presence at the school. “I would like to wish you all the best. Get well soon. We love you Mister B,” he said.

“I hope you get well soon. We will keep you in our prayers. Thank you for all the years that you dedicated to making Noorderland the wonderful school it is,” said Emily Rampedi.

“Discipline is the key to success. You taught us that and implemented it at the school. For this I thank you because I turned out as a disciplined and hard working girl. We love you dearly,” said Kamogelo Thamaga.

Maatla Makgoana said Bouwer was a very special person. “We wish you a speedy recovery. The school is not the same without you. I hope you get well soon.”

“We wish you all the best of luck and pray your recovery will be quick so that you can come back to the school. We love you,” said Pule Sekole.

Rethabile Monyane said the learners of Noorderland were very fond of their principal.

“We wish you a speedy recovery Mister B. We miss you so much and we hope you come back soon. Our prayers are with you and your family.

“We love you Mister B.”
