The long-awaited draft property valuation roll was handed over to the Polokwane Municipality on February 27 by Evaluations Enhanced Property Appraisals, the company awarded the tender late last year.

The roll will be made available for inspection from April 7 to May 31, according to municipal chief financial officer, Fikile Mudau.

Dawid Maree, on behalf of the Pietersburg District Agricultural Union, told Review last week that the farming community was querying the process followed by the municipality.

He alleged that the valuation process was not being followed in accordance with the law, saying that according to their interpretation, public participation needed to precede the formation of a valuation policy upon which the valuation process was to be based. Maree stated that they were afraid the policy would change drastically without them, or anyone else, having been consulted.

The South African Property Owners Association also confirmed an investigation into these matters and wanted to discuss the matter with the municipality before deciding on the way forward.

The municipality’s viewpoint was that a valuation policy could be tabled with the budget for the next financial year, and this, according to the Mudau, would be discussed next week during a council meeting.
