GREATER Giyani mayor Pat Hlungwani responded to resident’s complaints about potholes in the township and certain parts in the town.
Speaking at a public participation event in Section A on Friday, Hlungwane outlined the projects that the municipality implemented to address the pothole problem in the area.
“We have taken a decision during our recent council meeting that there should be no potholes in the township at all,” he said.
Residents complained that there were not enough public participation events in Giyani.
“We also have poor people in the location. Our kids don’t work. Most public participation events are held in the villages, as if we don’t have the same needs here,” said Nelly Mathebula, who represented ward 12 at the meeting.
Hlungwani assured residents that he heard all their concerns and would ensure that their problems would be addressed as soon as possible.
He said the municipality would start with road repairs first.
“The contractor has already started working on the road.”
Residents also complained about the fact that their water supply was often interrupted for long periods of time.
Hlungwani explained that the problem was caused by the fact that the town’s infrastructure was old and regular pipe bursts interrupted the water supply. He said the problem would not be solved by the Nandoni pipeline as residents expected.
“We are currently in talks with the district municipality to ensure that these old pipelines are renovated,” he said.
