POLOKWANE – Motorists using Silicon Street in Ladine can breathe a sigh of relief after an abandoned truck that had been obstructing traffic for two weeks, was removed by the Polokwane Municipality over the weekend.
The truck was left parked in front of a vacant erf next to a warehouse, with the rear of the vehicle in the road, obstructing traffic. The owner of the truck was unknown. The truck had rust marks and some parts were broken off. The registration number of the vehicle was DLW 248 NW.
“Motorists had to use the right hand lane to pass, but it is dangerous because the truck is blocking their view and they cannot see whether there is traffic coming or if it is safe for them to pass,” one motorist explained last Friday.
“We called the municipal call centre on Wednesday and asked them to remove the truck or at least move it out of the road. The call centre operator said someone would come, but no one came on Wednesday. I called twice after that and each time the operator abruptly ended the phone call,” he said.
Municipal spokesperson, Malesela Maubane confirmed on Monday that the vehicle had been removed.
