POLOKWANE – Several residents say they are frustrated with the state the municipality leaves their front yards in after completing repairs on waterpipes.
Pieter de Bruin says it was frustrating and unacceptable to find dirt and broken pieces of pipe on his front lawn, left there by municipal workers. He says he tries his utmost to keep his garden, including the grass bordering the pavement, looking neat and tidy, while also trying to save water as requested by the municipality.
“We are very proud of our city and try our best to keep it as clean as possible and would like the Polokwane Municipality to do the same.”
Municipal spokesperson, Matshidiso Mothapo says it is standard procedure for the municipality to ensure, once work was completed, that any rubble or left-over material should be disposed of within 72 hours.
“If not removed, the work will not be certified as being complete and acceptable. However, although it is not acceptable, sometimes it is possible that some rubble is left for a period because the full scope of work has not been completed.
“We encourage people to report such instances to the municipality so that we can investigate and clear the rubble.”
He adds that the municipality strives to provide quality workmanship in all maintenance work.
