IN many towns, an information centre welcomes and provides visitors with information about the area they are visiting.
However, the Giyani Information Centre is about to change all that with its new concept aimed at attracting tourists.
According to Greater Giyani Municipality spokesperson, Steve Mavunda, the Giyani Information Centre will not only serve visitors with information, but will also “serve them with some delicious food before letting them go, as is the African custom when you welcome visitors”.
Mavunda says the municipality has advertised a tender for an eatery in April. The eatery will be situated on the information centre’s premises.
“What we aim to achieve with this initiative is to have an information centre where people would not only come for information, but could also come to enjoy a meal with their families or loved ones if they so wish,” he explains, saying this will boost tourism in Giyani.
Although the expectations of the preferred candidates are high, Mavunda says the municipality will not try to guess who is most suitable to operate a restaurant or an eatery at the information centre. He says the tender was open for anyone.
“We cannot say who we want, because by saying that, we would be pre-empting the whole thing in favour of certain individuals and leaving others out,” he says.
