Municipality has big plans for new rural development in the area

THE Greater Tzaneen Municipality has set aside a total budget of R397 million for the upgrading of gravel roads over the next five years.

THE Greater Tzaneen Municipality has set aside a total budget of R397 million for the upgrading of gravel roads over the next five years.

This was made public at the draft 2014/15 Integrated Development Plan (IDP) and budget meeting at Bulamahlo last Thursday.

Councillor Cassius Machimane said the major roads that would get a facelift would be the roads between Thapane and Moruji as well as between Rita, Khopo, Lefara, Zanghoma, Uhuru, Xipungu and Mariveni.

Tickyline Glass Works, Myakayaka, Mine View, Burgersdorp, Gavaza and Mafarana as well as the roads from Moruji to Kheshokolwe and Risaba to Musiphane will benefit.

He said R78,6 million had been budgeted for capital projects in the next financial year.

Some R8,6 million was set aside for the construction of a pedestrian bridge at Marumofase low level bridges at Agatha Cemetery, Rikhotso, Mokonyane and Khubu to Lwandlamuni.

A total amount of R2,8 million was budgeted for the installation of high mast lights at Burgersdorp, Khopo, Moloko, Pelana, Mawa Block Eight and Nine villages.

Traffic lights will be installed at Letaba Cross and at the R71 turn-off to Deerpark at a cost of R600 000.

R15,3 million was earmarked for the upgrade of electricity infrastructure and R21 million was set aside for the upgrade and maintenance of the Tzaneen public swimming pool and Lenyenye Stadium.

Machimane said a community hall would be constructed in Relela at a cost of R2,3 million.

The provision of electricity to Mokgwathi Block 10 and 11, Thako, Kgwekgwe, Moleketla, Nabane, Marumofase, Mokomotjie, Moime, Mogapeng, Sethong, Matarapane, Seopeng, Semarela, Runnymede, Pyapyamela, Masekwane, Mohlaba Cross Phase 2 and Moruji Phase 1 would cost R28 million.

Machimane added that the Mopani District Municipality had allocated R125 million for these water projects: Thapane Regional Water Scheme Water Reticulation, Thabina Water Treatment Plant Upgrade, Lephephane Bulk Water Supply, Joppie-Mawa Bulk Water Supply and the upgrading of Tours Water Scheme Phase Two.

The Nkowankowa Taxi and Hawkers Development Initiative, Nkowankowa C Ring Road, as well as Nkowankowa C Indoor and Outdoor sport facilities will be implemented through the Neighbourhood Development Partnership Grant (NDPG) of R21 million.
