Thabazimbi mayor refutes R1,2 million pay claims

THE allegation that the Thabazimbi municipal manager's (MM) salary has been increased from of R800 000 to a whopping R1,2 million by mayor Patricia Mosito without the council having resolved to do so, has been vehemently denied.

THE allegation that the Thabazimbi municipal manager’s (MM) salary has been increased from of R800 000 to a whopping R1,2 million by mayor Patricia Mosito without the council having resolved to do so, has been vehemently denied.

DA Limpopo leader, Jacques Smalle, who made this allegation, said newly-appointed cooperative governance, human settlement and traditional affairs (Coghsta) MEC, Makoma Makhurupetja, should take action against Mosito in this regard.

“The Rapid Assessment Report on the state of affairs for the municipality, complied by Coghsta, indicates that mayor Mosito increased the MM’s salary from R800 000 to R1,2 million without a council resolution.

The report further indicates that the mayor, supported by the speaker and the MM, are taking decisions without following the correct procedures.

“The municipal manager has appointed his cronies, especially section 56 managers, without a municipal council resolution or any concurrence by Coghsta,” Smalle alleged.

Smalle called on Makhurupetja to acknowledge the findings of this report and act decisively by removing the officials implicated.

An angry Mosito spoke to CV regarding this matter.

She said the reported salary increase had not occurred and Smalle was just talking.

She added that “people” were out to destroy her for no reason.

“How can somebody like me undermine the government like that?

“We never had a Rapid Assessment in our municipality.

“In this municipality there was a process of placement and it was done with a council resolution.

The municipal manager is still getting the same salary,” she said.

She further alleged that the DA was “fabricating news”.

“I’m not ready to fight with the DA. I’m concentrating on my job.”
