POLOKWANE – During the rainy season residents complained that stormwater drains were not working properly, saying they had made repeated reports in this regard to the municipality.
Complaints included drain covers that had collapsed into drains and were preventing the water from flowing, sand blocking drain entrances, and drains flooding into houses and gardens.
Now some residents are recklessly dumping their refuse into stormwater drains, causing major blockages.
Speaking on behalf of the municipality, Matshidiso Mothapo said they urged residents to dispose of their refuse by using the facilities provided by the municipality.
“Refuse removal is done weekly, so there is no need for refuse to be dumped illegally,” Mothapo said.
He reminded residents that people found guilty of illegal dumping could be fined up to R1 000.
