Anger over state of roads in village

THE grading of gravel roads in and around Tzaneen has residents up in arms.

THE grading of gravel roads in and around Tzaneen has residents up in arms.

Residents from Mothomeng village, Bolobedu, say the grading was either done very poorly or not at all.

According to several villagers, who wished to remain anonymous for fear of victimisation, grader operators purposely did a poor job or failed to do their jobs at all, as they were afraid they would lose their jobs should the graders break down while they were operating them.

“We are concerned because some councillors do not even bother to monitor the graders when they are sent to their areas to improve the roads,” one man said.

He added that complaints had been made to the municipality in this regard.

Municipal spokesperson, Neville Ndlala, admitted that the municipality had a shortage of graders with one grader for each of the four clusters in the municipality.

He said they had a plan to establish offices in each cluster which would deal with all matters related to the upgrading and maintenance of streets.
