TWO vacancies for ward councillors currently exist in the Polokwane Municipality.
The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) in Limpopo announced that wards 20 and 23 have become vacant as a result of the resignation of the ward councillors. Both are DA wards.
Anne Kirkpatrick (ward 23) announced her resignation as a result of ill health, and Lindy Wilson (ward 20) has taken up a position as member of parliament for the DA.
Registration of voters within the wards at voting stations within the wards took place during the weekend, but it was not well attended and advertised.
According to Chris Ramafalo at the IEC offices in Polokwane, the by-election will be proclaimed on Friday, and thereafter no new registrations can take place. People can register at the IEC offices until the by-elections are proclaimed. Voters who wish to check their details can SMS their ID numbers to 32810.
