Street lights burn night and day in Fauna Park

Residents have been asked by the municipality to use electricity wisely by switching off what they do not use, but the municipality is not practising what they preach.

POLOKWANE – Residents have been asked by the municipality to use electricity wisely by switching off what they do not use, but the municipality is not practising what they preach.

There are four streets in Fauna Park where the streetlights burn 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Residents confirmed that the lights stayed on throughout the day and that this had been going on since the end of June.

According to some residents the municipality was aware of the problem, as they had reported the matter. However, nothing was being done to address the issue.

“We have reported the matter several times to the municipality and they keep on saying they will send someone, but no one ever comes,” one resident explained.

On Thursday at around 14:00 Review was able to confirm that the streetlights in Blesbok, Waterbok, Gemsbok and Nyala Street were indeed on.

Review reported the matter to the municipality the same day, but on returning to the area the next afternoon, the lights were still burning. By Sunday afternoon the lights were still not switched off.

By the time of going to print the municipality had not commented on the matter.
