Vhembe muni to install new water meters

THE Vhembe District Municipality will install prepaid water meters in all households in its jurisdiction.

THE Vhembe District Municipality will install prepaid water meters in all households in its jurisdiction.

The installations will commence on August 1.

The spokesperson for the Vhembe District Municipality, Moss Shibambu, says the installations will be completed in phases, with the first installations in Thohoyandou block P, F and G.

“The old conventional meters will be replaced by prepaid water meters.

“The aim of this project of installing new prepaid water meters is for residents to monitor their water usage so that households are able to pay for the water they use,” says Shibambu.

Shibambu appeals to residents to cooperate during the implementation of the project.

According to Shibambu, the installation of the new prepaid water meters follows an announcement by the Vhembe mayor, Tshitereke Matibe, during his state of the district address.

“For this financial year, 7 000 water meters will be connected and most of these meters will be prepaid.

“Installation of these connections will commence before the end of September this year.

“The council has resolved to focus on larger towns first, there after the programme will be rolled out to other villages,” said Matibe in the address on July 16.
