ANC’s national disciplinary committee upholds expulsion of 22 Mogalakwena councillors

THE ANC’s national disciplinary committee (NDC) last Saturday dismissed an application by 22 councillors from the Mogalakwena Municipality to review the decision of the provincial disciplinary committee (PDC) to expel them from the ANC.
The councillors took the matter to the NDC alleging that the PDC hearing was irregularly conducted.
NDC chairperson, Derek Hanekom, said they had rejected the five arguments presented by the councillors and had provided the full reasons for this in their nine-page findings document. He said the NDC found that the councillors failure to appear before the PDC between June 27 and 29 had prejudiced their case, and they had no valid excuse for not attending.
According to Hanekom, the NDC also found that the charges were properly served on the councillors by the deputy sheriff of the high court, and in their absence, the PDC was entitled to proceed with the hearing, hear evidence from ANC witnesses and make its finding.
The NDC dismissed the application for review by the 22 applicants and the sanction of expulsion by the PDC was confirmed.
Mogalakwena mayor, Malose William Mabuela, who was one of the expelled councillors, maintained on Monday that there had been no expulsions as yet. He said they (the expelled councillors) did not accept the NDC’s decision and had taken the matter to the ANC’s national executive committee for review. “I don’t know why people are rushing to the media with this, the matter is not finalised,” he said.
