Capricorn mayor meets with the members of local media houses
The Capricorn mayor, Gilbert Kganyago dined with members of local media houses at Saskia Restaurant at Fusion Boutique Hotel last Thursday.
POLOKWANE – The Capricorn mayor, Gilbert Kganyago dined with members of local media houses at Saskia Restaurant at Fusion Boutique Hotel last Thursday.
The purpose of the dinner was two-fold; for the mayor to meet with the different media houses and to strengthen the relationship between the district municipality and the media.
Kganyago encouraged the media to be critical, reflective and assertive. “We need the media to point out where we do not play our role, so that we can improve on service delivery. We don’t mind when the media critically reflects on us, because this will hold people accountable,” Kganyago said.
After Kganyago’s speech, there was a discussion, where different media houses had something to say. Some applauded Kganyago for the work he has done so far, while others asked him to include the media in the municipal budget by advertising in broadcasting and print media.
