Residents trust AB de Villiers to lead

Review asked Polokwane residents what they thought the Proteas' chances were in this important tournament.

POLOKWANE – AB de Villiers led the South African Castle Lager Proteas squad to Australia and New Zealand to take part in the International Cricket Council (ICC) Cricket World Cup in February and March.

After a dismal performance against India in Melbourne last Sunday and a brilliant win against the West Indies on Friday, Review asked Polokwane residents what they thought the Proteas’ chances were in this important tournament.

Thabo Modiba said he believed the Proteas could bounce back from their loss against India and showed that they were able to do so when they beat the West Indies.

“We have a well balanced team and all the players are committed,” he said.

Modiba said the defeat that the team suffered against India must have been a wake-up call and he was very happy that they regrouped.

He said he hoped that they would win the rest of their games too.

“Unfortunately I miss a lot of the Cricket World Cup games due to loadshedding and other commitments, but my heart is with our cricket boys,” he said.

“I love all our national teams and I believe we should support them wholeheartedly. If we give them the support they need, they will make us proud,” he said.

“We have some of the best cricket players in the world.

Lesley Malotane said he was also a big fan of AB de Villiers.

“AB is a great cricket player and a great captain. I am sure he will lead the team to victory.

“The team must not allow the loss against India to break their spirits. If the Proteas keep their wits about them and concentrate on winning, I have no doubt that we can win the Cricket World Cup,” he said.
