POLOKWANE – After they lost all the Vodacom Cup league matches that they played last season, Assupol Limpopo Blue Bulls office manager, Charles van Wyk, said the team wanted to redress those mistakes in the coming season.
The Assupol Limpopo Blue Bulls played their first league game against the Leopards at Olien Park Rugby Stadium in Potchefstroom on Saturday.
Van Wyk said it was a very competitive game and, although the Blue Bulls lost 22-9, they still played excellent rugby.
“We have been preparing for the league and the team is ready to improve on last year’s performance. We have new players who are committed and hard working and I believe that they will boost the team’s performance,” said Van Wyk.
He said the team recently attended a training camp that was presented by the Limpopo Sports Academy to prepare the team for the season and to try various combinations to see what worked best for the team.
The Assupol Limpopo Blue Bulls will play their first home match on Friday against the Xerox Golden Lions at the Peter Mokaba Sports Complex.
Van Wyk said he felt confident that the team would perform well.
“The team did not have enough time to train together last season because the players are from various areas. They only trained about two hours a day. The team is now based in Pretoria to better prepare for matches.”
