13 Dead, many injured in horror accident, Limpopo

LIMPOPO – Three more people have passed away, which brings the total amount who died in the accident on the N1 near Mookgophong to thirteen.

On Friday 3 April ten people were killed and twelve others injured in an accident where a bakkie and taxi collided on the N1 in Limpopo.

ER24 paramedics, along with other services, arrived on scene to find a taxi and bakkie burning in the middle of the road. Car parts from both vehicles were spread across the road. Members of the public had already began extinguishing the blaze.

On assessment of the scene, paramedics discovered ten bodies, one of them was a young child. Two of the deceased were found trapped in the bakkie while the remaining eight were found trapped in the taxi and lying outside of the vehicle.

Twelve other accident victims were found on scene, six of them were critically injured. Paramedics began their treatment of the critically injured, providing them with advanced life support. One of the critically injured patients were later flown to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment.

Once all the accident victims were treated, they were transported to nearby hospitals for urgent medical treatment.

Rescue services had to later use the jaws-of-life to free the deceased  from the vehicles.

The cause of the collision is not yet known.
