Club brings Westenburg together with festival

The Westenburg Rugby Club recently held its annual Westenburg Easter Sports Festival at the Westenburg Stadium.

POLOKWANE – The Westenburg Rugby Club recently held its annual Westenburg Easter Sports Festival at the Westenburg Stadium.

Held in its sixth year, the festival serves as a fundraiser to upgrade the facilities of the Westenburg Rugby Club.

Francois Hartlief, chairperson of the Westenburg Rugby Club, said the club had already started with preparations for next year’s festival, which would coincide with the club’s 10th anniversary.

“We are in the process of building our own pavilion for the Westenburg Rugby Club, which currently shares the premises with various soccer entities.

“The Westenburg Easter Sports Festival’s main aim is to raise money, which is then used to better the club’s facilities,” said Hartlief.

He said the club committee’s main focus for now was to get the pavilion in place in time for next year’s festival.

“We need in the region of R100 000 to complete the pavilion and anyone who would like to assist us with any form of sponsorship would make a welcome yet gratifying contribution to the Westenburg Rugby Club, as well as the community of Westenburg. But we are determined to have the pavilion finished in time ahead of next year’s festival,” he said.

Hartlief said it was time the club had its own facilities.

He added that with their own facilities, the club would receive more support from the community, and this in turn would bring the community together.

“The main purpose of the Westenburg Easter Festival is to bring the community of Westenburg together. The weather this year was not favourable, but we nevertheless had a great turnout.”

He called on residents to assist the club financially or to sponsor material which could be used to upgrade the club’s facilities.

Hartlief also thanked everyone who contributed through sponsorships and participation at this year’s festival.

Anyone willing to assist the club can contact Hartlief at 083 524 3777.
