POLOKWANE – This year, Redimed 24 celebrates 21 years of excellent health care services in a warm, welcoming and friendly environment.
The practice was opened by doctors Arno Greyling, Maryke Wessels, Gideon de Kock and Derick Jordaan on December 5, 1994 in Thabo Mbeki Street.
The founders of Redimed 24 knew that it would be a challenge to open a new practice in the city, and to meet this challenge, they had to be unique.
They therefore came up with the idea of having a health care practice that operated 24 hours a day, making Redimed 24 the first private medical practice to do so.
The first patient at Redimed 24 was a girl who fell off a horse. Redimed was very small at the time with only two consulting rooms, a dispensary and a small reception area.
The reception area was also used by the doctors to take a quick nap during intervals between patients at night.
A few years later, the partners decided to buy the shop next to their practice in order to extend their work space from two to five consulting rooms and add two bandage rooms.
In 1998, they bought premises closer to the private hospital, but construction did not start immediately. Construction started in 2002 and the Redimed 24 in Grobler Street opened in February 2003.
In 2008 the partners decided to move the Redimed 24 offices in Thabo Mbeki Street to larger premises at the Standard Bank Square.
Over the years more partners joined the practice and some left. To date, there are eight partners at Redimed 24, which include the original partners, as well as doctors Johan Greyling, Dirk de Lange, Dirk Alberts and Paul Vorster.
Asked what makes them unique from others, the doctors said: “we are different and that is what makes it so nice to work together. We are like a family and work together very closely.
“We share a strong belief in ethics and we have rules, which we follow religiously.
“We have weekly meetings, where we have discussions to identify problem areas and find solutions on how to improve service delivery.
“At Redimed, communication is very important, because that is the key to success”.
