World of Wheels expo at mall puts on display best of the best the Classic Car Club has to offer

People in and around Polokwane filled the Mall of the North parking lot for the World of Wheels Expo over the weekend.

POLOKWANE – People in and around Polokwane filled the Mall of the North parking lot for the World of Wheels Expo over the weekend.

The expo was held by the Limpopo Classic Car Club in partnership with Mall of the North.

The Limpopo Classic Car Club was established in 2008 by six members and they currently have 70 members from Polokwane, Louis Trichardt, Tzaneen, Mokopane and Mookgophong. René van der Merwe, Mall of the North marketing manager, expressed her gratitude to everyone who exhibited their vehicles at the expo.

Arrie van Wyk, a member of the club and an owner of a vintage car, said the expo had different aims: to raise funds for charity and for the vintage car owners to display their cars so they can be preserved for the future.

A total of 225 vintage and classic vehicles were displayed including tractors, horse cart and bicycles, including the second licensed car in Kimberley, a 1912 swift.

Vanessa Fourie, one of the vintage car exhibitors, whose car is unique due to its speed and performance, said the drag racing car reached up to 300km over 400m.

“The car accelerates faster than a formula one car, it is like an airplane and uses a parachute to stop,” she explained.

The event catered for the whole family, with Panarottis manager, Estelle Adams treating the kiddies to some goodies.
