‘Soprano of the North’ hits the right notes

Eddie Matlou's gospel star is on the rise

LIMPOPO – Eddie Matlou’s gospel star is on the rise.

Known to his fans as the “Soprano of the North”, Matlou (32) from Shawela village just outside Modjadjiskloof started his music career in 1997.

He studied computer literacy and information technology at Stanford Business College and also did call centre administration at Havetech in Johannesburg. Rea Ho Boka Morena, released in 2004, was his first offering to the music industry.

“I grew up in a house where singing and worshiping were a daily occurrence. I would sing on way to church and back. Music has always been in my blood,” Matlou says.

He currently has a new single from the album Shine Your Light titled Menwana phezulu. According to him this is a kwaito gospel tune with an up-beat tempo.

He encourages young people to stay in school and never forget that education is very important.

“People must go to school first and learn more about the music industry. There is nothing wrong with following your dreams but you must have something to fall back on. You need to have a source of income; surviving in the music industry is hard nowadays,” he explains.
