No less than 20 new records were set at the gala event for swimmers from PEPPS Polokwane Preparatory School, Mitchell House and Pietersburg English Medium Primary School (Pemps) recently.The event, hosted by PEPPS, drew a lot of interest from parents and learners alike.
Twelve records improved upon by PEPPS swimmers, five by Mitchell House and three by Pemps. PEPPS’ Troy Hillary bettered the former record in the mixed age group for boys over 100 m to 1.37. Except for the mixed age category all other items were contested over 50 m.

Franco Clayton, a PEPPS learner, also set three new records during the swim gala. He set a new record time of 38 seconds in the freestyle for boys u.10. The old record stood at 42.91 seconds. Franco also set a new record in the breaststroke, beating the old record of 1.05 minutes by finishing with a time of 52.01 seconds and in the backstroke, where the record was 56.95 seconds, with a new record time of 45.01 seconds.

Christene Fabo-Mbite, u.13 from Pemps improved three records. In the u.13 freestyle for girls she set a new record of 36.10 seconds. Her winning time in the backstroke was 47.28 and in the breaststroke 45.34.
Both the boys and girls u.9 records in the 50 m freestyle swimming category were improved when Anthony Clayton and Amy Scottt from PEPPS set new records, Anthony won in a new record time of time of 42.26 while Amy was home in 43.75. She also improved the old backstroke record to 58 seconds.
In the boys u.10 freestyle category both winner and runner-up, both from PEPPS, improved upon the old record. Franco Clayton set a new record time of 38 seconds and Troy Hillary finished in 39.03 seconds. Franco also set a new record time of 52.01 in the breaststroke.
Relo Sekhula from PEPPS also set a new record for the boys u.10 breaststroke with a time of 54.42 seconds. In the backstroke both Franco and Troy improved upon the old record, which was 56.95 seconds, with new record times of 45.01 seconds and 48.36 seconds respectively. The girls u.10 record for the freestyle, 43.91 seconds, was improved upon by Jenny Zhang from Mitchell House with a time of 39.62 seconds. She set a new breaststroke record finishing the distance in 55 seconds.
The new u.11 girls’ freestyle attained by Tinaye Muchandingona from Mitchell House with a time of 41.45 seconds. She also set a new record in the breaststroke with a time of 50.70 seconds. Abigail van Niekerk improved upon the old girls u.12 freestyle record with a time of 38.87 seconds.
The old girls u.7 record of 1.27 minutes was improved upon by Rozaan Korff, finishing in a time of 1.19 minutes.
Loyaan Remtula finished with a time of 46.86 seconds and thus set a new record for the breaststroke for girls u.12.
PEPPS won the event with 113 points, followed by Mitchell House with 100 points and PEMPS with 24.
